Wesley Leroy Alexander was the son of Denzil Leroy Alexander and Lillie Mae Bangle. He was born on June 26, 1935, in Loma Linda, California, and died of Acute Myocardial Infarction on July 24, 1973, in Camp Rumbai, Indonesia. He is buried in Redlands, California. Wes grew up on the East Highlands Orange Ranch in Redlands, San Bernardino County, California, where his father worked. Wes loved to draw and paint and was apparently quite good. Wes was also very mechanical, and could take apart any engine and reassemble it when hew was just a teenager. He loved to ride motorcycles. In 1952, when he was in 11th grade, he dropped out of high school to join the U. S. Marines Corps. He was honorably discharged after serving only 8 months when they discovered that he had a metal plate in his leg from a previous motorcycle accident. In 1953, Wes went to work for Wright's Manufacturing working in sheet metal and was eventually promoted to production foreman. Wes married first Jacqueline Therese LeVasseurr on June 26, 1954 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Redlands, San Bernardino County, California. They divorced in 1969. Wes took a job with the Vinnell Corporation in 1968 and was sent to Viet Nam. Wes married second Luu Thi Minh in 1972 in Saigon, Viet Nam. In 1973 he was sent to Indonesia to work on a pipeline, and left Minh in Saigon until he was settled. On July 23, 1973 he began to have chest pains and was taken to the Camp Rumbai Hospital. He died the next day around noon. 3 days after he died, Jackie received a letter from him saying "Please write to Minh, poor kid I don't think she thinks I am coming back for her." Jackie was able to get Minh out of Viet Nam, and Minh lived with Jackie’s family for some time in Rialto, California. |
