According to "The Forsythe-Humphrey Story" and "A Book of Memories", both written by his wife, William Henry Forsythe was the son of William Marion Forsyth and Margaret Scully. He is also mentioned as the grandson of Margaret Lurinda McFarland in her obituary. He was born on on February 25, 1893, at W. 2nd St., Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois. He died on July 8, 1974, in Resurrection Hospital, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He is buried in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois.
When Bill was a small child he went by Willie Forsythe. Bill added the 'e' to the end of his name while in high school. Apparently his cousin Forrest J. Forsyth had gotten into some trouble, so Bill and his sister Edna wished to disassociate their names. Edna later removed the 'e'. It seems odd they would do this since they were the only Forsyth’s in the town of Galesburg at the time. I found Forrest's WW1 draft card, and there he has written his last name as Forsythe, so the above story is probably not true.
Bill attended Galesburg Public School, Corpus Christi Grade School, and Corpus Christi High School where he graduated June 2, 1911. After graduation, he worked for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (C.B. & Q.) Railroad, first as a timekeeper and pay-roll clerk, then as a switchman from 1913 to 1932. He was left go from the railroad during the depression and worked as a Metropolitan Insurance Agent in Galesburg, Illinois until 1941. Bill belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Galesburg, was a 4th Degree Knight, and played on the K.C. ball team. He also sang in the Glee Club and Church Choir. They moved to Chicago in 1942, where he found work once again as a switchman on the Milwaukee Railroad from October 1941 until he retired on October 20, 1959. From then on he did volunteer church missionary work in the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary of the Lake Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Al and Clara were married in Chicago, Illinois on October 26, 1921. They lived in Chicago, Illinois all there lived, but moved to Texas in just prior to 28 Feb 1978 to live with their daughter. Al’s SSN was: 356-14-5465. Clara’s SSN was: 349-60-4712.
Al's grandchildren called him "Poppy". He was drafted during WWI and transferred to California. They came through the train asking if anyone was a cook. He raised his hand and said he was a meat cutter - so he became a cook. He served in the Army from 1 June, 1918 to 21 January, 1919.
Al met Clara while he worked for her father as a delivery boy. He drove a delivery wagon. Al and Clara lived in Chicago most of their lives. They never owned a home, and always rented an apartment. Clara's parents owned a 6-flat on Edgewater Avenue. Al and Clara live in the first floor apartment most of their married lives. When Clara's mother died, the oldest son, John Mayer, wanted Clara and Al to move to the second floor, so that the more desirable first floor apartment was available for renting. Clara refused, and they never spoke to one another again. The building was eventually sold, and Al and Clara continued to live there for many years. Eventually they moved to a third story apartment in another location, which after several years became too difficult to manage, and as they were advancing in age, they moved to Texas to live with their daughter, Doris and son-in-law, Bill. They remained there the rest of their lives.
Near the end, Poppy had lost most of his short term memory, but could tell stories from his youth. He sang happy birthday to Bill Forsythe on the morning of 18 May 1979, and died in his sleep that evening. Poppy was always happy, and never complained about his condition. Bill found him in the morning with his finger along side his face - he was smiling. Clara, came down with Alzheimer’s disease, and had to eventually be put in a nursing home to be cared for properly. She died 4 years later.

Dan and Lillie were married on December 1, 1930, in Redlands, California.
Dan and Lillie had 2 children:
Luewella Mae (31 Mar 1932 - 2 Aug 1978) m. Charles L. Crouse
Wesley Leroy Alexander (26 Jun 1935 - 24 Jul 1973) m. Jackie Therese LeVasseur
After they were married they went to live with his parents in San Bernardino, California, along with the other siblings. Dan and his brothers would turn over their paychecks to his mother, and in turn she would dole out an allowance to each of the wives. Lillie eventually demanded that they move out, but Dan refused to leave his mother. Lillie left and after about a week Dan changed his mind.
Lillie loved adventure and dreamed of living in Alaska. She was never able to realize that dream. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved working in the garden. She raised beautiful flowers and loved growing orchids. She always had a wonderful vegetable garden. She and Dan lived on the Sunrise Ranch (Orange Ranch) at the East Highland Orange company, where Dan worked for over 30 years. In 1960 they moved to Colton, San Bernardino County, California where Dan worked for the California Portland Cement Company as grounds keeper. They later moved to Crescent City, California. where Lillie worked for the Seaside Hospital in maintenance. She had a massive heart attack in November, 1973 and was a patient at Seaside Hospital for almost a month. When her condition became critical, she was transferred by helicopter to San Francisco, California to the Presbyterian Hospital where she died.

Elmo Leonard and Dora Lee were married on September 15, 1926, in Bossier City, Louisiana by a Justice of the Peace, and then later at St. John's Catholic Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, by their priest.
Elmo and Dora Lee had 6 children:
Frances Lee (15 Jul 1927 - 25 Aug 1992)
Elmo "Sonny" Leonard (12 Jul 1931 - 15 Jan 1981)
Helen Marie (4 Dec 1933 - 2001)
James Byron (4 Feb 1936 - May 1937)
Jacqueline Therese LeVasseur (12 Nov 1937 - ) m1. 26 Jun 1954, Wesley Leroy Alexander, m2. 12 Jul 1970, Henry Eugene Rutledge
Patricia Anne (13 Nov 1939 - ) m. Jim Franklin
Elmo and Dora Lee bought a home in Cedar Gove, Louisiana, near Shreveport. They later moved to 851 Wilkinson St., Shreveport, Louisiana. Elmo was a carpenter and later a general building contractor. He, along with his brothers, built many home in the Shreveport area. Elmo was also an avid fisherman.
After Elmo died at the age of forty, Lee was left to care for 5 young children. She had no work experience and couldn’t drive. She made the difficult decision to place 2 of her children in St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Pineville, Louisiana. There were Helen and Jackie. The youngest child went to live with her Uncle Francis Nathan Pavey’s family for 6 months, but then joined her sisters in the orphanage. This was during the war, so Dora Lee and her daughter Frances were able to find work at the nearby Shell Plant puddling TNT. After the war, Dora Lee applied for a job driving a limousine for a hotel in downtown Shreveport. She still did not know how to drive, but she got the job anyway. Her friend gave her several quick lessons, but when she started she still did not know how to backup. She would drive her passengers between the hotel and the airport. Luckily this was a circular drive. She later held jobs for the Yellow Cab Company as a taxi driver and then as a switchboard operator.
The girls returned home from the orphanage to live in mid-1944, but by November of 1945, they were placed in the Methodist’s Children’s home in Ruston, Louisiana. On September 30, 1948, she married Thomas Jefferson Ford and in May 1949, the girls finally returned home for good.
Thomas Ford was born September 17, 1920 in Converse, Louisiana, and died in 1980 in Montclair, California. Tom was a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, and was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was transferred to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and then to Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California. They rented a home on Texas St. in Redlands, San Bernardino, California. In 1951, they eventually were able to buy a home at 1155 Washington St. in Redlands. They later moved to Waterman Canyon, San Bernardino, followed by several other locations, but eventually settled at 5509 Kingsley Ave, Montclair, California.
Dora Lee was a wonderful southern cook and was known for her pork roast and gravy, shrimp and chicken gumbo, potato salad, and cornbread. She always made family, friends and guests feel welcome and would cook for everyone morning, noon and night. Her favorite color was red, from her hair to the carpeting.
Dora Lee and Tom loved going to garage sales, playing cards, and fishing. They also kept Chihuahuas. He was known by his grandchildren as Big Daddy, and she as Mother.
