Maj. Isaac Forsyth married Frances Brown
Children:
Oliver Franklin Forsyth [128] ++ S136
Marriage: (22 DEC 1792) First Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland+++ S164 S1062

Isaac Forsyth was the son of Alexander Louis Forsyth and Rachel O'Neal. He was referred to as Major in at least one source, and tradition says he served George Washington and Lafayette. He was born before 1766, probably in Ireland in one of the counties of Antrim or Tyrone. He died after December 20, 1828 when he is mentioned in his father's will, but before October 3, 1831 when his will was probated. There is no record of his death in Bourbon County, and he apparently died intestate (out of state). He married on December 22, 1792, at the First Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland (Hanover, Heidleberg Tonwship, York County, Pennsylvania did not have a Presbyterian Church at that time) to Francis Brown, possibly daughter of a Nut Brown. They were married by Rev. Allison. Francis Brown was born in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland, and died there before June 19, 1803, when Isaac married a second time to Nancy "Anne" Letton in Prince George's Parish in Montgomery County, Maryland. However, he apparently leased property from Richard McAllister in Hanover in 1804, so possibly Francis died in Hanover, and Isaac did not go to Baltimore until after her death.

Isaac and Francis had 4 children:

Bethilda "Matilda" (10 Apr 1792 - 1820+) m. Cornelius Rayburn
Augustus "Gustie" (7 May 1794 - ) m. Frances Sparks
Oliver Franklin (abt 1796 - bet 1830 and 1 Apr 1838) m. Margaret Layson
Denmark (5 Sep 1800 - abt 1876) m. Abigail Brown

Bethilda was born 9 months prior to her mother's marriage to Isaac. Francis is sometimes referred to as Francis Nut Brown which has led to speculation that her maiden name was 'Nut', and her first married name was 'Brown', however in the 1790 census of Baltimore, Isaac's father Alexander is found living 13 dwellings from head of household, Nut Brown, with a wife and 2 daughters. One researcher, Jane Fitting, found no evidence of a first husband in either York County, Pennsylvania, or Baltimore, Maryland. She found no estate of anyone by the name of 'Brown' or 'Von Braun' in either location, who died during the year Bethilda was born, naming a wife Francis and minor child. It is possible Isaac and Francis were married first in York County, Pennsylvania, though no record of this has been found, and then later went to Baltimore and were remarried, 'officially', in his mother's Faith Presbyterian Church. It was not unusual when couples married outside their parent's faith, to get remarried so that it would be recognized by their parent's religion
It seems odd that Isaac and Francis were married in Baltimore in 1792, but their two eldest children were baptized in York County, Pennsylvania in 1795.
In 1805, Isaac and his second wife Nancy moved to Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky. He owned a farm in what is now Harrison County, Kentucky. Isaac was a farmer, trader, and woodcraftsman. They eventually settled in Jackstown on the Licking River with twelve children. Isaac is listed in the 1820 Kentucky Census in Bourbon County
Nancy Letton, the daughter of Michael Letton, was born 21 Mar, 1786, in Rockville, Maryland, and died 3 May, 1876, in Jackstown, Kentucky. She is mentioned in Michael Letton's will (Montogomery Co. Will Book L pg 117). She had been previously married, and possibly had two daughters Elvira and Avelina by that marriage. Micheal Letton left a slave "under guardianship of Isaac Forsythe" to Avelina in his will, probated in 1819. Michael Letton was also the bondsman of Bethilda when she married in 1816.

Isaac and Anne had 6 children were:

Wayne Thompson (1808 - 1880) m. Evalina Hutchinson
Omelia Steffee (aft 1808 - ) m. Israel Lindley
Angelina "Ann" (1814/5 - aft 3 Oct 1831) m. Daniel Milliere/Miller
Viviani Ann (19 June 1819 - abt 24 Apr 1889) m. Hamilton J. Hulcee
January Hartt (1821 - Dec 1874) m1. Patsey M. Baker, m2. Margaret A. Redmon
Alexander ( - )

Both January and Thompson spelled their last name as 'Forsythe'.

Margaret Martin is of unknown descent. She was born between June 6, 1752 and July 5, 1752 in New York, and died on March 6, 1852 at the age of 99 years and 9 months, in Adams County, Illinois. She is buried alongside her husband at Layson's Hill, near Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky.
Hugh Martin is listed in the 1790 census for Bourbon County. David, Henrey, John and William are listed there in the 1791 census. These are possibly relatives.
John Layson married Margaret Martin
Children:
Margaret Layson [129] ++++ S138 S143

John Layson married Margaret Martin, probably in Pennsylvania. John and Margaret had 8 children some of which were born in Pennsylvania:

Robert (abt 1776 - Sep 1848) m. Hannah Scott
Isaac (7 Jul 1782 - 6 July 1822) m. 8 Oct 1807, Mary “Polly” Moore (15 Nov 1787 - 6 May 1878)
Sarah A. "Sally" (bef 1790 - 1863) m. David W. Pond
Nancy (30 Nov 1792 - 13 May 1881) m. Stephen Owens
Margaret (abt 1794 - bet 6 July 1840 and 5 Sep 1840) m. Oliver Franklin Forsyth
John Martin (abt 1795 - 6 Mar 1861) m. Sidney Mauk/Mock
Oliver (aft 1810 - bef Sep 1848? or aft 1849)
Archibald (aft 1810 - bef Sep 1848?)

After the war, They moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky, near where the town of Paris is, but before there was a settlement there. Then sometime before 1787, they moved to a farm near the town of Stoner Creek, close to the Peacock Pike. Layson's Hill, where John is buried, is nearby.
John Layson is found in the 1800 Bourbon County, Kentucky, Tax list, and 1800 Kentucky Early Census Index (KYS1a1953434). In 1810 he is listed in the Bourbon County, Kentucky Census Index. In 1820 there are two John Laysons (probably he and his son) listed in the Bourbon County, Kentucky Census Index (pg 132, KY35343511, KY35343512). Again two John Laysons are listed in the 1830 Bourbon County, Kentucky Census Index (pg 298, KY559160493,KYS2b97780), however he died prior; they are most likely his son and grandson. Margaret moved with her daughter Nancy Owen to Hancock County, Illinois in 1830. She purchased 110.4 acres of land in Adams County, and 108.4 acres in Hancock County on June 5, 1835. She is found in the 1850 Federal, Adams County, Illinois, Census for Houston Township, living with her daughter Sarah Pond at the age of 97, "Deaf & Blind."

In 1830 she is living with David W. Pond in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
In 1850 she is living with David W. Pond in Adams County, Illinois.
In 1840 she is not living with David W. Pond or Stephen Owens in Illinois, or with John M. Layson in Kentucky. She is also not living with Margaret Layson in Illinois. Where is she then?

William Witt married Elizabeth Haley
Children:
Daniel G. Witt [130]
Marriage: (JUN 1783) Henry County, Virginia++ Haley

William Witt, son of Elijah Witt and Jane Harbour, was born in Henry County, Virginia, between 1758 and 1764. He died nearby on September 20, 1839, in Patrick County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Haley, daughter of David Haley and Ester, in Henry County, Virginia in June of 1783. David Haley willed a slave to them upon his death.
Elizabeth was born in Halifax, Virginia about 1764 and died prior to July 12, 1819 when William Witt married Fanny Carter in Patrick County, Virginia.
Patrick County was formed from Henry County in 1790. No census records exist in Virginia for 1790 or 1800, however tax lists do. There are tax lists for Henry County in 1790, but not for Patrick County. The 1790 Henry County tax lists show 5 male Witt’s over the age of 21 taxed: Joel, John, William, Jesse, and David. In 1800, only 3 Witt’s were taxed in Henry County: John, Jesse, and David. Since William was no longer in that county, it is likely he was on land that was resectioned into Patrick County in 1790.

William and Elizabeth had at least 4 children all born in Henry or Patrick County, Virginia.:

Daniel G. (30 Sep 1787 - 2 May 1855) m. Martha Washington Brewer
Lucinda “Lucy” (1789 - ) m. Samuel B. Howell
Hester ( - ) m. James Howell
Saunders (1795 - 10 Mar 1871) m. Viola Lavinia “Polly” Helms

Several other children have been listed on the internet (Mary Elizabeth, Martha Patsy, Ruth) but few agree on who the parents are. It seems likely that at least one child was born before Daniel, and possibly two. Mary Elizabeth “Elizabeth” Witt was born in 1785 in Patrick County, and married John Hancock on February 9, 1804. Martha Patsy “Patsey” Witt married Isham Edwards on October 8, 1804 so was probably born before 1786, however she has been placed also as the daughter of Charles Witt and Lavinia Harbour. Ruth Witt was married to Caleb Griffith on August 24, 1828, so would have been somewhere around 1808, and therefore much later than the other children.

Children:
Martha Washington Brewer [131]
Marriage: (ABT 1793) Henry County, Virginia

William White Brewer was the son of Sackville Brewer and Martha White. He was born about 1772 in Henry County, Virginia. He died in Virginia in 1815.

It is thought that he was the William Brewer who first married Frances ______ in about 1793, and together they had a daughter:

Martha Washington Brewer (1794 - 19 Mar 1876) m. Daniel G. Witt

Frances probably died soon after, possibly in childbirth, as no other children are found for this union. The dates fit nicely to support this William. A great-grandaughter of Matha Washington (Laura Stevenson) refered to her several times as Martha White and Matha Brewer White in her letters.

William then married Nancy Morriss in Henry County, Virginia, their bond was dated October 1, 1796. William and Nancy had the following children:

Samuel Coleman (1801 - 1880) m. Mary Anne Pritchett
Lorenzo Dow (1804 - 1874)

Sarah
Catharine
William Patterson
John S.

John Arthur McFarland [132] ++ S101 Morris S149 S1042:438-439

Joseph McFarland was the son of William McFarland and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick. His bible lists his birth and death dates. He was born on February 4, 1761 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, died in Cedarville Township, Greene County, Ohio on November 3, 1839. In "Robert McFarland (1675-1740) of Ireland and Pennsylvania" it says he died at 78 years, 9 months, 25 days, however, according to his birth and death date, this is incorrect by 26 days. He is buried at the Baptist Cemetery in the Cedarville Church yard.
Joseph entered the Revolutionary War at age 14, and served seven years. He was a cousin of the William McFarland that married Rebecca White. Joseph married Rebecca White's sister, Margaret White in 1782, in Rockbridge County, Virginia. They were probably twins.
Margaret White was born May 8, 1763 in Augusta County, Virginia, and died on November 3, 1834, in Cedarville Township, Greene County, Ohio at the age of 72. She is buried alongside her husband. She was the daughter of John White and Catherine Evans.

Joseph and Margaret had the following children:

Katherine (3 Oct 1782 - ) m. John W. McFarland
Robert W. (1 Apr 1784 - 23 Aug 1869) m1. Mary A. _____ (- 9 Aug 1828), m2. Catherine Henderson (- 8 Aug 1850)
Mary "Polly" (1 Apr 1786 - ) m. Aaron Brewer
John Arthur (3 Apr 1788 - 24 Jul 1840) m. Rebecca McFarland
Joseph (3 Sep 1790 - ) m. Rebecca Margaret _____
Margaret (12 Jan 1793 - ) m. William Newport
Benjamin (20 Aug 1795 - bef 1810)
Tabitha (17 Jun 1797 - 1874) m. John White
Martha (8 Nov 1798 - 1798/1 Jan 1873)
James (3 Sep 1803 - 3 Apr 1829)

Thirza (23 Aug 1809 - 1865) m. Uriah Lawrence

The 1776-1779 taxlist records for Lack Township (now in Juniata County), Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, show a Joseph McFarland being taxed in 1776 for 60 acres of land, 2 horses and 1 cow. Our Joseph was only 15 years old, and could not have been the same person being taxed. The same tax records show a Joseph McFarlin bing taxed in 1779 for 2 horses and 2 cows. Again, Joseph was only 18, and still off to war.
The 1784-1797, State of Franklin (now Tennessee), land records show for January 16, 1784, John McFarlan entered 228 acres on south side Nolachucky River, opposite the mouth of the Little Chucky River. The warrant was granted to Joseph McFarland on June 25 1784 (Book 1, page 199). In 1785, there is a Joseph McFarland listed in the Washington County, Virginia taxlist records, but I am not aware that he was in Virginia at the time. On September 20, 1787, the Greene County, Tennessee land records show a grant for Joseph McFarland of 228 acres on south side of Chuckey River (page 47, grant #352).
In May, 1790, the Greene County Common Pleas records show Joseph and James McFarland as jurors in the case of the State vs. David White (page 160). The same Common Pleas records show a deed recorded on August 6, 1792 for Joseph McFarland to John Robinson, for 114 acres, on south side of Nolachucky River, "being part of a grant of 228 acres, #352 in Sept. 1787, to Joseph McFarland" (page 260, Deeds Book 2, page 193). On the same date of August 6, 1792, a deed was recorded for Joseph McFarland to James McFarland, for 114 acres, on south side of Nolachucky River, "being part of a grant of 228 acres, #352 in Sept, 1787, to Joseph McFarland " (page 261, Deeds Book 2, page 203). On May 15, 1799, the same plot of land that Joseph sold to John Robinson, is recorded as being sold by John Robinson to James Cravens, for 114 acres, on south side of Nolachucky River, "being part of a grant of 228 acres, #352 in Sept. 1787, to Joseph McFarland" (page 268, Deed Book 3).
Having sold his property, Joseph moved his family from Greene County, Tennessee to Harrison County, Kentucky, where Joseph is found in the 1795 census. They settled near Cynthiana, north of Lexington. In 1800 Joseph, William, and Benjamin McFarland are all listed in the Harrison County, Kentucky taxlists.
In June of 1808, Margaret White is mentioned in a lawsuit in Augusta County, Virginia.
In 1810 Joseph is again found in the Harrison County, Kentucky census as Joseph McFarlin (Page 317 - 11301-22210) with 1 son under the age of 10 [James], 2 sons between 16 and under the age of 25 [John Arthur and Joseph), and himself between the age of 26 and under the age of 45 [however he was 49]. He also had 2 daughters under the age of 10 [Priscilla and Thirza], 1 daughter between the age of 10 and under the age of 16 [Tabitha], and his wife between the age of 26 and under the age of 45 [however she was 47].
In 1811 Joseph McFarland moved his family from Harrison County, Kentucky to Greene County, Ohio. In the 1820 census for Xenia Township, Greene County, Ohio, Joseph is listed (Page 147 - 000101-02101-2) with 1 boy between 16 and under 26 [James], and himeself over 45, 2 girls between 10 and under 16 [Priscilla and Thirza], 1 girl between 16 and under 26 [Tabitha] and his wife over 45.
In 1822, some of the children and their familes moved to Camp Point, Adams County, Illinois.
Joseph is found in the 1825 taxlist for Greene County, Ohio, and in the 1830 Census for the Town of Xenia, Greene County, Ohio (page 300) with 1 male 70-80 [himself], 2 females 20-30 [Priscilla and Thirza], 1 female 60-70 [his wife].

William McFarland is the son of Robert McFarland and Esther _____. He was born June 10, 1755, in Peters Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He died at the age of 70 on June 1, 1825 in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky, and is buried at Endicott's Church in Harrison County, Kentucky. His will was dated 3 years prior on November 25, 1822 (not long after his wife passd away) and was probated in August of 1825. According to "The History of Adams County, Illinois" by Esther Gallemore Holt, William was the ancestor of Martha Lurinda McFarland; and "Geneology of the Joseph and William McFarland Branches of the McFarland Family 1675 to 1910" by Thomas Simms McFarland states that he was the cousin of Joseph McFarland, the husband of Margaret White.
He married Rebecca White, daughter of John White and Catherine Evans, on October 19, 1779, in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Rebecca was born probably on May 8, 1763 in Augusta County, Virginia, and would then be the twin sister of Margaret White. Rebecca died May 1, 1822 in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky. She is also buried at Endicott's Church. Gary Morris in "Robert McFarland (1675-1740) of Ireland and Pennsylvania" states that she is the sister of Margaret White. So apparently the White sisters married the McFarland cousins.

William and Rebecca had the following children, the first seven of which were born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, the rest in Harrison County, Kentucky:

Letitia (19 May 1780 - 1 Aug 1842) m. Jun 1800, Moses Scott
Robert (7 Mar 1782 - ) m1. Deborah Gray, m2. Elizabeth Kenton, m3. Eunice Dorsey
John W. (17 Mar 1785 - ) m. Joseph McFarland's daughter Katharine. They moved to Adams county, Illinois, in 1832)
Rachel (13 Feb 1787 - ) m. David Hendershot
William (13 Nov 1788 - abt 1850) m. Susan Hire, (went to Illinois in 1822)
Thomas (16 Apr 1790 - 15 Aug 1863) m. Sarah "Sally" Florence (no children)
Esther (1 Oct 1791 - abt Mar 1793)
Rebecca (22 Jul 1793 - 1 Jun 1867) m. Joseph McFarland's son John Arthur
Sarah Ann "Sallie" (~1794/6 - ) m. John Jones
James White (17 Jun 1797 - Mar 1847) m1. Sarah Estis, m2. Rachel Willock, m3. Milly Duckworth, m4. _____
Nathaniel (4 Aug 1797 - 17 Feb 1851) m. Nancy Robinson
Joseph (2 Sep 1799 - )
Jane (26 Jul 1801 - 23 Sep 1874) m. 1821, David Evans
Catharine (9 Mar 1803 - )
Benjamin (13 Dec 1808 - ) m. Sarah Short

William apparently served at least thirteen months in the Revolutionary war prior to his marriage. He served from December 1, 1776 through January 1, 1777, and is listed as a Pennsylvania drummer boy and a frontier ranger. After this time he may have reenlisted, because his name appears as a private in Capt. Alex Peoples Co. 1st Batt. Cumberland Co. Pa. Militia in 1777, and in Captain Samuel Finton's 2nd Co. 1st Batt. Cumberland Co. Militia commanded by Col. James Dunlap in 1779 (Nat No. 155787 Vol 6 pg.23-68 Archives 5th Series Pa).
After his marriage in 1779 he moved his family from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Rockbridge County, Virginia. Apparently he left Pennsylvania because he was a Whig, and there were difficulties between the Whigs and the Toys. The taxlist records for Rockbridge County, Virginia show the following for William:

1782 - William Mcfarland
1783 - Wm McFarland 1 Free White Male age 16 and up , 0 slaves, 1 horse, 2 cows.
1785 - William McFarlin 7 horse and 10 cattle.
1786 - William McFarlin 2 horse and 2 cattle.
1787 - William McFarlin, 2 horses, 3 cows.

"William McFarland was an invalid the greater part of his life. Three days after the birth of his first child, his wife became suddenly sick and he ran a half mile with frost on the ground, bare footed and hatless, for assistance. This was the last of November, 1780. That day he was taken sick, and was never well afterwards."

William testified that his sister, Rachel, was over the age of 21 at her marriage on April 20, 1793 in Rockbridge County. He purchased land in Rockbridge County, Virginia, from his father, Robert McFarland, both on 3 Dec, 1793 (Deed Book B, page 544), and on 1 Dec, 1795 (Deed Book C, page 216). He also sold land there to Thomas Welch on 1 Dec, 1795 (Deed Book C, page 220). It was about this time that he moved his family to Kentucky, first at Crab Orchard, and then on Indian Creek, seven miles northeast of Cynthiana, in Harrison County, where he appears in the 1795 census and the 1800 tax list. In the 1820 Census for Maryville Township in Harrison County, William is listed as head of household 3 sons under 10, 2 daughters between the ages of 16 and 26, both he and his wife over 45, and 1 manufacturer laborer between 26 and 45. If this is indeed our ancestor, the two daughters would be Jane and Catherine, but it is unknown who the sons are; also, the youngest son listed above, Banjamin, would have been only 12 years old, and should ahve appeared on the census, unless he died young.
"At his home in the year 1800, the doctor told him his liver was diseased, and he could cure him by removing the diseased part. He submitted to an operation but nothing was found wrong with the liver. During the operation he was held by four men. He took nothing to stupefy him and afterwards said all was as dark as midnight. This took place in the old homestead, the house still standing. He was fastened to a board and lay unmoved for forty-two days. The following twenty-five years he taught school on the home farm. For sometime prior to his death he weighed but sixty-three pounds."

Abraham Sneden was the son of Robert Sneden and Mary Dobbs. He was born in 1733 in Westchester County, New York. At the time of his first marriage in 1759, he was making his living in Orange County, New York as a ferry operator at Sneden's Landing. His first wife had died by 1762. He married second Susannah Knapp on May 17, 1763 ("New York Marriages Previous to 1784", Albany, 1860, p. 381).

Abraham and Susannah had 4 known children who lived to adulthood:

Robert (1764 - ) m. Elizabeth Martin
Abraham (3 Mar 1767 - ) m. Catherine Knapp
Daniel (5 Jul 1769 - 1857)
Elizabeth (26 Mar 1778 - 7 Aug 1858) m. Captain Conrad Edict

Shortly after his second marriage, he and Joseph Knapp are listed as sureties for a marriage bond for Mary Clark, of Orange County, New York, and Joseph Knapp on August 10, 1763. On December 26, 1766, he is listed as a boatman from New York City when he was a bondsman for his brother Dennis Sneden for administration of their father’s estate (Scott, Kenneth, "Genealogical Data from New York Administration Bonds 1753-1799," Vol 10., New York, 1969). This may be in error because according to the "American Archives (Series), 1774-1777", page 592 by Peter Force published in Washington D.C., Abraham Sneden was living in Cornwall, Orange County, New York in 1775.
He is listed again as a boatman in the 1790 census for Haverstraw, Orange County, New York, which is located a few miles north of Sneden’s Ferry. He is listed along with his wife and 2 males over 16 and 5 females.
Around 1793 he moved to Conklin, Broome County, New York, settling at the mouth of Snake Creek. H. P. Smith lists him as one of the first settlers there in "History of Broome County" p. 187, Syracuse, 1885. J. B. Wilkinson states in "The Annals of Binghamton of 1840", Binghamton, 1967, pp. 66-7 that Abraham and Daniel Sneden lived 4 miles up the Susquehanna from Binghamton, and that Abraham Sneden, Jr. lived in Kirkwood. In 1798, Abraham Sneden, Abraham Sneden, Jr., and Daniel Sneden were among 37 persons who signed a petition addressed to Mr. William Bingham, the original proprietor of the Binghamton, New York area lands concerning the tile of their lands.
Abraham is listed as Abraham "Smithins" in the 1800 census for the Town of Chenango, Tioga County (which then included Broome County), New York. He and his wife are listed as over 45, along with 2 males, one between 16 and 26, and the other between 26 and 45. He is found living next door to David Compton.
He is found in the 1810 census as Abraham "Sneeden" for Union Township (which includes Conklin), Broome County, New York. He and his wife are listed as 45 and over, with one female between 10 and 15. He is living next door to his son Daniel.
He must have died before 1820 when he is no longer found in the census records for Orange County, New York.
He is also mentioned in the "Gazetteer and Directory of Broome and Tioga Counties, 1872-1873", which was self published in Syracuse, in 1872 by Hamilton Child.
