This appears to be in error according to Weis who states that he is the son of Nicholas, and grandson of Richard and great grandson of John. I am assuming that Nicholas is a missing generation, and that Alice Wotton had been misplaced by TCF as evidenced by the missing wife of John. von Redlich agrees with my construction.
